SAFETY TOWN

Safety Town Drivers Having Fun and Learning Safety

The Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island will hold the annual Safety Town event on May 5, 2023 in partnership with the Early Childhood Center, The Children’s Center. Hilton Head Hospital, Beaufort County Sheriff, and Hilton Head Fire Rescue. The purpose is to educate children from ages 4-6 about safety in a fun and interactive way.
The Safety Town setting is constructed in Jarvis Creek Park using a track winding through model roads, intersections, and buildings. The children pedal around the track in Kettcars (pedal driven go-carts) to learn pedestrian and traffic safety. The children explore fire trucks and ambulances learning about fire and first aid safety and visit hands-on stations where small groups learn about safety topics from the experts in a non-threatening way. Sheriff Deputies talk about “Stranger Danger.” The children get to check out a patrol car. A portable 911 station teaches how and when to call 911 emergency calls. A teddy bear hospital is staffed by Hilton Head Hospital to demonstrate hospital and emergency room care. Of course, there are snacks and safety materials to take home.
